Helicon Paper Co.

who we are

We are a husband and wife design team, married in 2016 and inseparable since 2007. In 2015, we took our photography and graphic design skills and joined forces to create Helicon Photo + Paper Co. We love sharing our artistic vision with you, and creating those special wedding tokens that live on beyond the last dance.

Joe - Photographer, Videographer, Visual Artist - Helicon Photo

Joe is a videographer and wedding photographer, with a love of all types of visual media. He has a Bachelor's degree in Cinematography, and worked in the film industry in New York City for eight years before relocating to Rochester, New York. Joe has worked on countless film sets in the New York Tri-State area, and spent a year at the New York Film Academy assisting on set and in the classroom. He currently works as the Visual Media Specialist at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), creating video content for online courses and promotional material.

In his spare time, Joe has turned his long-term photography hobby into a career, shooting in film and digital formats.  He's been an active member in the wedding industry since 2013, shooting video and still photography for weddings all over the Tri-State area.  He also worked for Life Touch, where he developed an expertise in sports photography as well as individual and group portraits. His knowledge of lighting for film and expertise in several types of photography has made Joe a well-rounded wedding photographer. He knows when to use natural lighting verses a soft flash, he can capture those fleeting moments as they happen with speed and agility, he can beautifully  frame stunning portraits and sweeping landscapes, and he's an expert at rallying friends and family for those priceless group photos.

Other things about Joe:

He loves exploring new places, both in the city and in nature. He is always down to try a new restaurant, brewery or cafe, especially if burgers are involved. He loves fishing with his Dad and brother, and building campfires to grill his famous ribs on. He loves to cook, especially those complicated recipes Angela finds on Pinterest. He really does not like New York City and has been wanting to move to a smaller city for years. He's a super-laid back dude - ask anyone. He is a secret pet-whisperer - all the fuzzy ones love him.

Angela - Illustrator, Graphic Designer, Creative Director - Helicon Paper

Angela is an artist and designer, with a love of hand-made items and an obsession over detail. She has a Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, and worked in the fashion industry in New York City for a decade before relocating with Joe to Rochester, New York. Angela has worked for private-label and brand name designers, such as Victoria's Secret Pink, August Silk, Calvin Klein Performance, Tommy Hilfiger Sport and DKNY Sport. Over the years in the fashion industry, Angela developed her graphic design skills, designing artwork for tees, active wear and lounge wear for men and women.

Shortly into her career, Angela realized there was something missing. She was searching for meaning in her work, missed the hand-made illustration work she pursued in her childhood, and had a strong desire to make more of an impact in the world through art. The fashion industry wasn't providing that outlet she needed. Angela discovered her stationery design passion by accident when working on a graphic design project for a friend's bridal shower.  Through stationery design, Angela realized she could combine her love of illustration and working with clients with her graphic design expertise to create unique stationery items for weddings and special events. Angela began building her stationery design business and skills in 2015, while creating custom wedding and special event stationery for friends and family.  She launched her Etsy shop in 2016 and joined forces with Mango Tree Productions in 2017 to create custom logos and packaging for wedding videography. When she's not working on her next project, Angela is binge-learning all she can about running her own online business and expanding her arresting skills through watercolor, calligraphy, hand-lettering and various printing techniques.

Other things about Angela:

She's a health nerd and gym-rat who can't go anywhere without her running shoes. She's a coffee connoisseur, with cold brew being her beverage of choice to get. shit. done. She's a Pinterest addict, with a love of collecting everything: recipes, interior design ideas, outfit ideas, and of course cat pictures. She does not have a green thumb but has ambition to learn. She loves New York City and dreams of moving back someday. She's always up for a good adventure with Joe, out in nature or around the city. Popcorn is her jam.

This is your day, after all, and we want to make sure you and everything you stand for is what everyone remembers most about your wedding, from start to finish.

In our own journey into married life, we realized how many parts and pieces go into making this day a reality, and how easy it is to lose sight of yourself in the whole whirlwind. It was important to us that everything about our day felt like us and not like the generic standards the wedding industry likes to impose, from our save-the-dates, to our invitations, photography, reception decor and thank you cards. This was not an easy task to coordinate, and we knew that it takes a special marriage of sorts to bring everything together and we kept asking ourselves - why can't this process be more seamless? That's where we come in.

We are a photography and graphic design team that will be the creative force behind your wedding, ensuring that every detail is focused on and captured so you can worry about more important things - like saying your vows! By working with us, you will have the benefit of having two services for your wedding under one roof (that's less phone calls and emails for you!). We will be there throughout your wedding planning process to work along side you, help you plan the details of your day, source additional vendors if needed and even provide moral support (we've been through it and can relate). Most importantly, we'll get to know you so we can make sure everything we create for you is tailored to you. Let's make your wedding one that your friends and family will never forget!

Thank you for considering us, we would love to help answer any further questions you may have.
